Get Involved With Durham Wildlife Trust

Now, instead of just being a wildlife charity, we are most definitely a people and wildlife charity...

Since Durham Wildlife Trust began in the early 1970s, people have been asking us "What's there for us to do ?" In those days, that was likely to mean: "Can I get involved in serious long-term studies?" or "Which committees can I sit on?"

Times have changed and, today, the question is more likely to mean: "Can I bring my family along to events, can the kids join a wildlife club, can you show us some wonderful local wildlife and can we have some fun?"

This is a big change and is one that the Trust has gradually adapted to. Now, instead of just being a wildlife charity, we are most definitely a people and wildlife charity.

We still focus on wildlife and habitat, manage nature reserves around the region and run projects to protect species under threat. But we also provide members with special events, clubs, local groups, visitor centres, discounts off relevant local products and services, talks and great colour publications with stunning photographs of local wildlife. Even our latest project, Wildplaces, is all about connecting people with wildlife. It's a mini-version of Springwatch, placing state-of-the-art video cameras in wildlife sites to give people an insight into the lives of otters, badgers, a whole variety of mammals, all in this area.

The more people that get involved in enjoying wildlife, then the stronger Durham Wildlife Trust's voice can be in the Region.

That's why we're teaming up with CSSC to offer members a discount on membership of Durham Wildlife Trust. This means you only pay £11 (instead of £20) for a year's membership if you join as an individual or £13 (instead of £25) if you join as a family.

By joining, you'll be doing your bit for wildlife between the Tees and the Tyne. And you're sure to find lots to inspire, educate and interest you.
