The CSSC North East Region held the Spring Cup and Inter-Departmental Golf trophy competition on the 26 April 2011 at Newcastle United Golf Club.
Situated just five minutes from the city centre, Newcastle United Golf Club was the venue for the 2011 CSSC North East Region Spring Cup and Inter-Departmental Trophy competitions. In bright and breezy, and rather cool, conditions the course proved to be agood test of golf that rewarded the good shots whilst also penalising the bad!
A field of 35 compeitiors started at 9:00 in the morning, playing a singles medal format for the Spring Cup. An impressive total of nine players scored below their handicaps and David dickinson (DWP) recorded the best gross score of 76, just four over par. However, the Spring Cup is a handicap competition and an excellent score of nett 66 saw Colin Wardle (DWP) become the 2011 champion.

The Afternoon proceedings for the Inter-Departmental trophy started at 14.00 under slightly warmer but still breezy conditions. This was a pair's competition played under the greensome format and again, very healthy scoring saw seven of the 17 pairs post a nett score better the the par for the course. Special mention should go to the DWP team of Dean Findley and David Dickinson for recorded a par equalling gross 72. Unfortuneatley for them, that was not low enough to stop the HMRC team of Mick McMahon and Peter Genderson posting a loewer nett score to become the 2011 North East Region Inter-Deprtmental Trophy champions.
