Barry Southall organised his last match for the Midlands Region on 24 April 2008. Barry has been the organiser for more years than he cares to remember. A dedicated, unassuming volunteer, he was recently a recipient of the CSSC Midlands Chairman’s Award. It was typical of Barry that he was in two minds about accepting it as he didn’t think he’d done anything to deserve it.
His last action for the region was to send in a report of the match as follows:
Only 25 members turned out at the Staffs/Worcs Canal, Oldington, Kidderminster but it was expected as this canal is not everybody’s cup of tea. Despite this the winning weight of 30lb 12oz was a record for this stretch of water. It was Kev Edwards who took this massive weight with Kev Hancox second with another record weight of 21lb 13oz. The team representing the region at the nationals are K. Edwards (Captain), J. Miller, G. Booth, P. May, D. Perks and T. Polter.
Although Barry has resigned as the organiser he says that he will continue to fish in the Mids events. We wish him every success for the future and join him in welcoming the new organiser, Mark McGinly
