Midlands 5 a side football qualifier
Thursday 21st May 2008 saw 9 football teams from the Midlands Region competing at Derby JJB stadium for the chance to represent the Midlands at the National final.
The format was two leagues and meant that the top two teams from each league would make it through to the semi finals. After some very close matches, the final match in Group A, CPS Birmingham vs Leicester was the decider. As a result, the first semi final consisted of the winner of Group A, RCSL Nottingham, playing against the runner up of group B, Sharma's Army. The second semi final had the Winner of Group B, Hanley JCP against Pro Evo's elite. They were exciting matches, with RCSL Nottingham beating Sharma's Army 2-0 in a closely fought match and Hanley JCP beating Pro Evo's Elite 6-0.
Therefore the final saw last years winners RCSL Nottingham playing against the previous year's winners, Hanley JCP. After a very close match, RCSL Nottingham made the break and expertly slotted the ball behind the Hanley Goalkeeper. With only minutes left to play, Hanley JCP had a few chances, but on this occasion it was not to be. RCSL Nottingham won the match 1-0 and retained the trophy which was presented to them by Clive Dennis, the Midlands Regional Chairman who had come to watch the tournament.
The finals will be held at Derby JJB Soccerdome on Friday 28th November 2008 and we wish RCSL Nottingham all the best.
