Sharma's Army victorious over HMRC Nottingham in Football Final.
It was a well attended event with 11 teams contesting the CSSC Midlands Region 5-a-side qualifier in Coventry on the 28 May 2009.
Group A was comfortably won by Sharma's Army who scored 25 goals in 4 games. Worcester BDC also qualified for the semi final with a 6-2 win over Blackburn House Rovers being the decisive result.
Group B was more closely contested with Perry Barr's 1-0 victory over Saxon 5 crucial as they edged them out of a semi final place by a single point. Champions, HMRC Nottingham, topped the group with five straight wins.
In the semi final, Sharma's Army swept aside Perry Barr 5-1 with Captain Dale Skelsey scoring 4 goals. In the other semi final, HMRC Nottingham edged out Worcester BDC 3-2.
The final was a hard fought encounter with previous champions, HMRC Nottingham succumbing to the host, Sharma's Army, 4-1. Another 3 goals by Dale Skelsey proved to be the main difference between the two sides.
It was a deserved tournament victory for Sharma's Army as they scored 34 goals in 6 games. Dale Skelsey was the tournament's top scorer with 18 goals while keeper Danny Molloy was back to something like his best form after some rather shaky performances lately. Despite nearing his 40th year, Pete Griffiths continues to defy the advancing years with a superb all round performance – even managing to supervise his 3 children between games.
Yet again Sir Alex Sharma continues to defy the critic (Mark Ali) with yet another tournament victory. There simply seems to be no end to his managerial talents. His team now represents the Midlands at the National Tournament in Derby in November.
