Midlands regain Crown Green Bowls Title

Following a break of four years, the title of CSSC National Individual Champion returned to the Midlands region.

Darren Lord of Telford was the man to thank for bringing the trophy back, a feat that hadn't been achieved since Andy Stevens' success in 2003.

On the receiving end was Duncan Crabtree (DWP Preston), whose sterling efforts weren't enough in an exciting and very close final which ended 21-18 in favour of Lord.

He was presented with the magnificent Hospital cup from Brian Chamberlain (BCGBA President) along with a replica trophy, Argos vouchers, free entry into the Federation merit, and a set of new Metrolite bowls - kindly donated by the sponsors Metrolux bowls of Warrington.

Darren bowled well all day, disposing of strong opposition in Rob Fitzpatrick (North West), Shaun Barker (Yorkshire), and Andy Knott (Wales) en route to the final.

Not everything has been going his way this year, however.

In July, Darren fell victim of Paul Butcher in the Midlands Regional Trophy which was contested at the Severnsides in Shrewsbury.

Butcher, of Wolverhampton MOD, was presented with his trophy by Midlands BDE, Ruth Bentley, at the Waterloo on finals day.
