CSSC Midlands 8 Ball Pool Competition
The inaugural CSSC 8 Ball Pool competition took place at the Club 147, Wilton Street, Leicester on 13 August 2010. Twenty-six people entered and it was decided to just have a singles event but with a plate competition for people who lost in the early rounds.
All preliminary and first round matches in the main event would be played over best of 5.
After some tightly contested matches the quarter final line-up for the main comp was as follows;
Dave Snow v Simon Moore
Bob Carrington v Kev Gillespie
Phil Connolly v Mike Smith
Richard Payne v Steve Lloyd
These were played over best of 7 racks
Snow beat Moore 4 - 2, Carrington beat Gillespie in a 7 frame thriller, Connolly beat Smith 4 - 2 and Payne beat Lloyd again in a final frame decider.
The semi final line up pitched together Payne v Snow and Connolly v Carrington. Both matches were one sided affairs, with 4 - 0 victories for Connolly and Snow.
The final, played over best of 9 racks, to-and-flowed one way and then the other, but it was Dave Snow who became the inaugural CSSC Midlands 8 Ball Pool champion by 5 racks to 3 and will have the honour of putting his name on the splendid trophy. Well done Dave. Mr Connolly had to be content with a bright red CSSC polo shirt but also earned a call up to the National 8 Ball Pool comp to be held in Glasgow in November, along with the champion, Dave Snow. Good luck boys.
The Club 147, as usual, also put on a superb buffet for all competitors ( and the organiser ) which everyone thoroughly enjoyed and the venue is a must for future Midlands 8 Ball pool and snooker competitions as the tables are always in a superb condition.
The plate competition was just as competitive as the main comp and the semi final line up was as follows;
Richard Greet v Andy Moore
Tim Neal v Bruce Johnson
Andy Moore came back from the brink to beat Richard Greet 3 - 2 and Bruce beat Tim by 3 racks to 1. Bruce Johnson became the first winner of the plate competition by beating Andy by 3 racks to 1. Congratulations Bruce but don't forget to hand the trophy back in 12 months time !!!
Thank you to all competitors that took part and I hope you enjoyed it and will take part in future CSSC events
