Malvern & Worcester Area Golfing Society

The golfing society has been going for over 40 years and in the past was closely associated with the MOD establishment in Malvern (RSRE). RSRE was transformed into an agency (DRA/DERA) in the 90’s and subsequently privatised into Qinetiq. We still have a lot of Qinetiq staff in the society. In 2011 we had 26 paid up members, but recent significant redundancies at Qinetiq are not helping matters.

Our programme of events runs from April to October, with the planning done in February/March. Each year we play 2 matches against the Met Office GS and DRA Farnborough GS (these have been going for many years). We run a golf event roughly each month at local courses usually for a trophy; we hold a summer knockout; we often enter teams into charity events held at local clubs. The golfing society is currently well supported by the M&W Area. We get 50% of our regular and 75% of match green fees. So our golf events are very good value.

We have a range of golfing competences from a few low handicappers to relative beginners.
