Event Description

CSSC Leicester Area are pleased to announce their inaugural mountain biking event, which will be a non-competitive leisure ride in the beautiful Peak District National Park.

The ride will follow a route pre-marked onto a weather-proof custom made A4 Ordnance Survey map (1:50,000 scale, or 1 ¼ inches to one mile) starting from and finishing at the fantastic Hartington Hall Youth Hostel which will be our base.

Using a mixture of tarmac, dirt roads, bridleways, tracks and byways you will visit the very best scenery that the White Peak area has to offer leisure mountain bikers on a route devised by our expert leaders. The basic route will cover 30k (18 miles) with an optional 10k (6 miles) for those made of sterner stuff.

The ride will be led, and can be expected to take around five hours to complete, although participants will be able to ride independently and vary their route should they so wish.

You will need to wear a proper cycling helmet. A “mountain bike” in good condition (especially the brakes!) will also be required. Anyone not bringing their own bike can source one from local cycle hirers.

“Trail provisions” and light refreshments will be provided free of charge before and after the ride.

Anyone requiring accommodation for the Wednesday night may consider booking this for themselves at the YHA hostel at Hartington Hall on a bed-only basis. CSSC Leicester Area will meet a limited proportion of the YHA accommodation costs and/ or reasonable mileage costs to and from the event.

Breakfasts can be booked and paid for individually on arrival by those who want it, as can evening meals, although there will also be the option of dining at one of the pubs in nearby Hartington village.

Places are strictly limited and are expected to sell out quickly.
