Touch Rugby

New players and teams are welcome to join in. No experience of playing rugby or touch rugby is needed.

Interested players or teams should contact jon.johnson@cssc.co.uk to register their interest or for more information.

The game: Touch rugby is easy to pick up and appropriate for all levels of ability – from absolute beginners to experienced rugby players. It is a non-contact sport. Mixed touch rugby is played between teams of six, with a minimum of two women on the field at all times. Squads ideally consist of 10-14 players with rolling substitutions allowed throughout the 40 minute games.

Training: Several departments will be taking part in training sessions and friendly games in advance of the league in Victoria Tower Gardens on Millbank starting at 6.00pm. New players and teams are welcome. This is a good place to come and learn the game and to find a team to join if necessary. There will be no sessions on Bank Holiday Mondays 25 April or 2 May.

League location: The Civil Service league games take place from 9 May throughout the summer on Tooting Bec Common - 10 minutes beyond Clapham Common on the Northern Line or by bike. You can also walk from Balham overground station (services from London Victoria). Games will take place between 18:00 and 20:00.

Non civil servants: CSSC membership will soon be available to the wider public services and their families. Teams are also permitted a contingent of non civil service players, so non public servants are welcome to play.

Costs: Costs of the civil service league are to be confirmed but are likely to be under £20 per team (less than £2.50 each player) per week.
