Eastern Chess Southern Zone Report 2010

On 30 November 2009, the Eastern Region Southern Zone Chess competition was held in Southend...

There were eight entries from as far away as Peterborough, Ipswich and Norwich. Supermaket vouchers were offered as prizes: First prize £75, second prize £30 and £15 for the best ungraded player.

In a closely fought competition, the final places were not decided until the 7th and final round. Steve Wedlock, from Southend, took first place with 6.5 points. In second place was Francis Bowers from Peterborough, who scored six points. Although Dave Guy from Southend seemed to be losing his game against Ian Duncan from Southend, he recovered and took the prize for the best ungraded player.
