Eastern Region Golf Championships - 21 June 2011

On a sunny summers day 25 happy golfers took on the daunting Saffron Walden Golf Course trying to qualify for the national finals.

Although the weather conditions were favourable the course was long with tricky greens. For the first time in years the championship was held over 18 holes with a stableford event in the afternoon. This format proved popular with the participants. In the morning round low scores were hard to come by which was reflected in the qualifying scores.

1. Roger Meadows - net 74
2. Rob Newns - net 76 on countback
3. Bill Charlton - net 76
4. Paddy Archibald - net 77 was the 3^rd qualifier due to the unavailability of Bill Charlton.

Stableford Event

1. Scoring in the afternoon stableford reflected the difficulties encountered in the morning due in many incidences to fatigue

Results

1) Roger Taceq - 34 points

2) Robert Cornish - 32 points

3) Bill Charlton - 31 points
