Roots Hall Roar Wins Eastern Region's Fantasy Football LeagueJay Mitchell

Jay Mitchell (pictured right) from Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex did well finishing 11th in CSSC Sports and Leisure's national Fantasy Football League and that performance was enough to place him at the top of the Eastern Region League and secure him the Region's £50.00 prize!

CSSC's Treasurer, Phil Hawkins, contacted Jay to find out a little more about their winner.

PH - Well done Jay, where do you work?

JM - I work for HMRC in Southend.

PH - Was this your first attempt at CSSC fantasy league?

JM - No, I entered last year, can't remember where I come but it certainly wasn't anywhere near the top!

PH - Do you take part in any other Fantasy Leagues and how did you do?

JM - Yes I usually enter the Sky one, I ran a mate's team for her in a mini work league and we came 2nd.

PH - Why "Roots Hall Roar"?

JM - It was the name of the Southend fanzine written by a good friend of mine, that and being a die hard Southend fan means this title has always  been special to me.

PH - How long have you been a member of CSSC and do you use CSSC for any other sporting or social activities?

JM - I've been a member about 3 years now give or take, I have been to Edinburgh twice for the Masters football event and also attended the CSSC Games at Loughborough to compete in the football there as well.

PH - Are you member of RCSL and what activities do you do with them?

JM - Yes, must be for over 20 years now, I've taken part in the Walking, Bowling, Sports Day (Doing Rounders and 100m vets this year). Also used to play for the Southend football Rep side until my legs started to give out on me!

PH - How often have you been monitoring your team in the CSSC Fantasy League and how did you progress?

JM - I checked the team at least once a week, being lucky with your Captain selections (double points) is the key. It was a slow climb. The initial team I selected wasn't up to much so made early use of my transfers and things started to pick up from there. With about 6 weeks to go I had actually reached 3rd overall and decided if I was going to try for the top I needed to gamble. The two teams above me had largely the same players as myself so I decided to go for broke and change my team around to gain some points from players that they didn't have. The next week I was 15th!

PH - Will you be defending your Regional title next year?

JM - Yes I'm sure I will be. We have a mini RSCL Essex league that made for a lot of banter between the boys and it's always satisfying to come out on top!
