CSSC TWN Area “The inappropriates” interview.
Names: Robert Weatherill, Mark Weir, Jack Greenwell, David Pearce, Chris Brennan
2011 saw the return of the defending xbox national champions the inappropirates and defend they did in the usual style, fast hard victories. This team romped home to the 2010 finals with a four man team , this time they decided to have their final team place filled with newcomer Chris Brennan adding to the team’s impressive arsenal of skill on this game type.
Yet again throughout the tournament this team never looked like being beat, from the first game to the final they went from victory to victory and retained their National team title for 2011. Like we have said in the past the inappropirates have set the benchmark for the xbox tournament and its for all the others to catch up, it looks like they’ll be dominating for some time yet.
Q1. So a final member was added to the team, did you all manage to get some practice as a team before the event?
A1. When we came to the nationals in 2010 we spent a long time practicing and going over the maps trying to get a strategy. As soon as it came to the matches that pretty much went out the window straight away. This time around we all had different working hours so practice was pretty thin on the ground. In fact we didn’t practice as a team of five at all. We added Chris for the Northern Ops competition last year and he’s a good addition to the team. I don’t think we would have had as much success as we have done if we were still a team of four.
Q2. Did the team have any game strategy for black ops?
A2. We’ve tried to make ourselves stick to some sort of strategy before and we nearly crashed out of the nationals last year in domination because of it, so this year we figured we might as well just play the matches as we’d play them online at home. There’s no point in stopping people playing to their strengths and in a way that they are comfortable. The reason we all play the COD series is because each game is different. I don’t think you can plan for that – or if you could it would get pretty boring pretty quickly.
Q3. Only the default classes were used in the tournament, did the team have a preferred setup?
A3. It’s always a little weird using the standard classes after using custom ones, but I think one of the reasons we have done so well in these tournaments is because we don’t all use the same class. The team are pretty handy with the MP5 class on the whole but whereas some of us would branch out into the M16 class, others would use the Draganov, or HK. I think at one point I even saw one of the guys using an Olympia.
Q4. Ok now that you’re defending your Title for a second year running, the team tournament looks to be moving on to MW3 for 2012, are you looking forward to it?
A4. Yeah, I think that the MW series is a little stronger than the Treyarch series. Glad to get certain weapons back in the game (specifically the UMP and G36C making a welcome return). The maps are a little different but there’s a few that I’m already hoping will be picked for the competition next year. Personally, I’m hoping there’s going to be a match on kill confirmed since it’ll make for some quick and interesting games.
Q5. Any words of advice for teams entering the xbox team tournament next time around?
A5. Don’t spend too much time and effort rehearsing a set strategy. Just spend time playing games online limiting yourself to the standard classes. Black Ops was good for that because you had ‘barebones’ where you didn’t have to contend with the other teams kill streaks when you weren’t using them. You don’t necessarily have to practice as a team, just make sure that there’s at least a few of you on and every now and again stick it on team tactical. That’s what works for us. |
