Target Rifle Shooting 31 May 2008

All the results from the CSSC TSA Match Vs RAF TRC

The day was warm with alternating periods of bright and overcast. There was a gentle breeze coming generally from the right and wind coaching was never very difficult.

In the conditions the Civil Service had a poor shoot at 300 yds and averaged only 47.4, counting all 12, which immediately put us 12 points behind the RAF. We did better at 600 yds where we averaged exactly 48 but this was only 1 point better than the RAF. As is always the case, long range can completely change the balance of a match, as it is so easy to lose many points. At 900 yds the team were very pleased to average 47.4 again, counting all 12, but this was still 1 point behind the RAF leaving us 12 points behind overall.

An excellent effort would have been required to overtake the RAF at 1000 yds and we averaged exactly 47, which is a very reasonable score at this range. This was 5 points better than the RAF but when the two lowest scores were eliminated for each team the RAF had won by 7 points. A very close result after a match of 480 shots.

The top scorer for the CSSC was Ian Davison with the very good score of 196.19. Coaching was done by the following shooters: Ian Davison, Roger Mundy, David Smith, Eric Stuart-Bamford, Rob Lygoe, Clive Wall, Alastair Haley and Roger Quy.
