Target Rifle Shooting 1 July 2008

CSSC TSA Match vs Army, RAF, Royal Navy and TARA - The services Pentangular Match

The day started with drizzly rain which fortunately stopped shortly before shooting began and remained dry for the rest of the day, but it was generally overcast with a few sunny periods. There was a gentle breeze generally from the right, throughout the day, which only became a problem for the wind coaches at 1000yd.

The Civil Service always seems to make a slow start at 300 yds and on this occasion made a reasonable score averaging almost 48 but did worst at 600yds where we dropped 10 more points, but this was largely due to one poor score.

At the end of the morning the ATRC collected each teams scores and produced some statistics. This was based on the top 10 scores in each team at that stage. This showed the CSSC 3rd 22 points behind ATRC who were leading and only 2 points in front of the RAFTRC.

Scores at long range are always lower as the effects of the wind and light are much more significant, we were therefore pleased to average almost 48 at 900 yds. However, at 1000 yds the light deteriorated and this had a detrimental effect on the scores and we averaged just over 45.

At the end of the match the ATRC again collected each teams scores and produced the final results. We were very disappointed to find we had slipped to 4th place 8 points behind the RAFTRC almost the same as the previous days match.

The top scorer for the CSSC was again Ian Davison with the excellent score of 199.27, which was top score of the match.

Coaching duties were shared between Ian Davison, Roger Mundy, Dick Roalf, Roger Quy, Jim Dunn, Alastair Haley, Dave Smith and Clive Wall
