TARGET RIFLE: CSSC TSA MATCH Vs ARMY, RAF, ROYAL NAVY & TARA

THE SERVICES PENTANGULAR MATCH

6 JUNE 2010.

Unlike the day before it begun cool and with a grey sky but by the afternoon we had a blue sky and it was much warmer. The breeze was stronger than on Saturday and became much harder to read in the afternoon subsequently resulting in lower scores than the day before.

On this occasion the TARA were not present as the match clashed with the Irish Open which had resulted in them being unable to field a team. In addition the RNTRC only had 9 shooters so it was agreed that each team would count its top 9 scores.

The Civil Service were very optimistic after their excellent shooting the day before and made a reasonable start at 300yds averaging 47.5, considering all 12 shooters. We dropped only 3 more points at 600yds than we did at 300yds despite a very tricky wind at this range. It was not so much the strength of the wind but the rapid changes.

Scores at long range are always lower as the effects of the wind and light are much more significant, and this day was no different and we only averaged a disappointing 46 at 900yds., At 1000 yds we averaged 45.7 which seemed very reasonable in the conditions.

When all the teams scores were entered into the computer and the lowest 3 scores deleted it showed that the Army had taken the lead over the CSSC at 300yds by only 1 point and they increased their lead at 600yds to 8 points with the RAFTRC only 1 point behind us. At 900yds the Army had a poor shoot losing 10 more points than CSSC allowing us to take the overall lead by 2 points. However the RAF had the best score at this range and drew level with the Army. Everything would depend upon the 1000yds shoot !

At 1000yds, compared to the CSSC, both the RAF and Army fell apart leaving us the winners by 20 points over the RAF and 39 0ver the Army. A magnificent victory.

The top scorer for the CSSC was Alastair Haley with the excellent score of 195.23 which was the highest score of the day. Coaching duties were shared between Ian Davison, Roger Mundy, Clive Wall, Roger Quy, Jim Dunn, Rob Lygoe, Alastair Haley and Eric Stuart-Bamford.

Following the two consecutive victories the CSSC Team are eagerly looking forward to the final match against the Combined Services hoping to repeat the feat of 2007 by winning all 3 matches against Service Teams.
