Date: 24th February 2008

Venue: Civil Service Club - Rosyth

The Civil Service Club in Rosyth held this year's Scottish Region Skittles event, which for its 1st & 2nd Place teams means the all important trip down to Cheltenham in May to represent Scotland in the National Alba3SkittlesFeb08Finals.

It was great to see a mix of beginners and league players taking part on the day trying to successfully knock down 9pins with only 3 balls.  After some extremely competitive matches the eventual winners were Alba (293) who piped the Imps (284) at the post by only 9pins and got their hands on the coveted Ernie Letley Shield.  Amazingly this is Alba's 3rd successive win in this tournament.  The winning team was made up of Ally Bar, Abe Torrance, Alan Macpherson, John Anderson and Vic Dobbie.  The runners up were Ronald Patterson, David Barbour, William Gibson, George Mason and Donald McInally.

The highest individual score on the day came from Willie Gibson of the Imps who averaged an excellent 19.75 per game (6.58 per three balls) followed closely by Vic Dobbie of Alba with 19 per game (6.33 per three balls).  Surprisingly with so many quality players on show there were no spares on the day, but, I have been reliably informed that they are keeping the spares for the National Finals!!! Shot of the day goes to Anne Young who managed to smash a pin into the air, only for it to land upside down back in its original position.

It was a brilliant day and special thanks has to go to Alastair Barr who not only organised the event and looked after everyone but was also a member of the winning team.  Thanks also to the Jannette Barr & Evelyn Dobbie who were ably assisted by Marc and Carol Driver who ensured that everyone was well fed and watered on the day.  We wish both teams well for the National Finals on the 17th May down in Cheltenham.

This is a fantastic sport so if you are interested in taking part or getting involved please contact Ally on 01383 418257 or you can e-mail him at ally@dafc1.freeserve.co.uk
