CSSC Curling Rep Match

An arresting performance!

The Civil Service Curling Association Representative Squad put a halt to any ideas the British Police team had of retaining the 'Broomielaw' Trophy. The Civil Service Rep Squad of 16 players had a very successful day's curling at the Kinross Curling Rink. This was the eleventh match between the two teams and the Police have only won twice. Last year they won by a single shot but the Civil Service Squad were determined to regain the trophy and their pride. By the half way stage the scores were finely balanced standing at 9pts to 7pts against the Police. However, at the end of the competition the Civil Service had escaped the clutches of the Police and sped away to a resounding victory. Losing only one game out of eight in the second session meant that the final score was 23-9 in favour of the Civil Service. The overall winning rink was skipped by Donald MacRae, DWP with Ian Kerr, ex HSE, Derek Wilkie, Royal Mail and Mary Kerr, ex HSE.

Many of the Fun Weekend curlers stayed over to watch some of the top Civil Service curlers and were treated to an exceptional display of competitive curling from both teams. Many of the players from both sides are now looking forward to travelling to Canada as part of a combined CSSC Curling Association and Police Joint Tour flying out to Toronto on 21 October where they will visit many curling rinks from Niagara through to Ottowa. The Tour group has been very fortunate and will be attending many events along the way. This includes a final banquet at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police College where full ceremonial dress will be worn by the Mounties in attendance. This is a very rare honour that has been provided and we will take pride in representing the CSSC at this event.

Keep track of the Tour by checking the blog at spca-cssc-canadatour.blog.co.uk that will be updated regularly as we travel through Canada.
