Coarse Angling Report
On a very hot day the competitors met by the banks of the Great Ouse at Kempston, just outside Bedford. Although it was a little disappointing that only eleven anglers took part, it is acknowledged that river fishing is a dying art these days. Anglers have instead got used to commercial fisheries where they receive breakfast, can park behind their peg and catch big carp.
Our eleven anglers were split into three sections, with the top two from each section going on to represent the eastern region at the national final in September on the River Trent. Our river was low and clear and it was a small fish match for most. One man to buck that trend was Tim Dawes, who found eight Chub to win the match with 25 Ibs In second place, was Pam Mason (the only female angler at the qualifier) who fished with worms, and caught lots of small perch for 11Ibs. John Hewison found himself in third place having caught over 100 fish for 9Ibs. The remaining three competitors to qualify comprised Phil Mason, Ian Neve and Dave Smee. A great day was had by all; everyone caught fish and ended the day with a suntan.
