Report on Chess Team Blitz 2008
The 2008 London Civil Service League Team Blitz was held on Thursday 8th May, in the Belgravia and Victoria Rooms of the Civil Service Recreation Centre, Chadwick Street. There was an excellent turnout - 15 teams and 63 players participated.
The tournament was run as an 11-round Swiss. The winners, who will hold the Barford Trophy for one year, were Metropolitan Police with 10 points from 11 matches; closely followed by last year's winners, Revenue & Customs on 9.5/11.
The tournament was controlled by Nigel Blades using the Swissperfect program. This worked very well in conjunction with the Plasma screen, which was used to display the round pairings and standings.
The tournament was played throughout in good spirit and thank you to everyone who helped with setting up and tidying away equipment. Thanks also to: GLCC, Home Office and UNATS for the loan of extra equipment needed to accommodate the largest Team Blitz entry of recent years; and to Roland Smith for taking care of the room bookings.
