| CSSC Scotland to host Celtic Games 2010 The 25th Celtic Games will be held at Herriot Watt University Edinburgh on Friday 25 June 2010. The Celtic Games began as a football match between Scotland and Northern Ireland in 1985. A few more sports and a few years later, the Welsh region was invited to participate and then our counterpart organisation, Sportslink, from Dublin. Over the last 25 years, it has evolved into one of the highlights of the year for the competing Celtic nations. The 2010 event promises to be one of the best yet with around 150 competitors from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland enjoying the Scottish hospitality that will be laid on for them. This year's Games are being held at the Edinburgh campus of Herriot Watt University on the west side of one of the UK's great cities. It is only 10 minutes from Edinburgh airport and less than half an hour from the city centre and all its famous landmarks. After the teams arrive on Thursday, they will have some time to take in some of the sites of Scotland's capital city before meeting up in a city centre venue for a bite to eat with a Scottish theme and some traditional karaoke. The sports on Friday promise to be as fiercely fought as they always are and many friendships will be made and renewed. This year the sports will be Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis & Indoor Triathlon in the morning. After a well earned lunch break, the same competitors will take part in Basketball, Tennis, Rounders, Boule and Indoor Curling. All sports except Football are mixed. The Gala dinner with band and disco at night will round off a fantastic day of competition. Competitors in the Celtic Games are selected from Qualifiers in their respective regions. If you would like to know when they are being held in your region, please contact your BDE or Regional Committee. |
