| CSWHA Rep Team Match Report 5th and 6th March 2008 at Aldershot Civil Service 1 v WRAF 2 CS had a high number of new players as interest in being selected for the Representative Team has increased significantly this year. Although most players had never played together before, they all responded well to the coach and played as a unit. Over the first half both teams were evenly balanced, with CS taking the lead when a short corner was firmly stuck to Cath Killgannon, who took strike and the ball was cleverly deflected into the goal by Gemma Vincent. The WRAF came back in the second half with goals in the 51st and 65th minute through open play. CS tried to level the score on a number of occasions but failed to do so. A draw would have been a truer reflection of the game. Civil Service 6 v WREN 0 In the second game of the day CS settled down and generated some excellent passing sequences to put pressure on the WREN defense. The Navy hung out until the 11th minute when Cath Killgannon scored with a direct strike from a short corner. This was followed up when Ashley Bunce scored following a short corner. CS made it three shortly after the break. Despite resolute defending by the Navy, Gemma Vincent scored an individual goal from open play when the ball was played directly through the Navy's defense from the half way line. The fifth was the pick of the match - Ashley Bunce expertly lifted the ball over the defense for Natasha Close to latch onto the ball and place it wide of the advancing GK. Gemma Vincent rounded off an excellent game with a reverse stick strike from open play in the 65th minute. Civil Service 0 v WRAC 8 A very strong WRAC team dominated play and went into the lead after 10 minutes from a well taken short corner routine. CS defended well with some first rate saves from CS GK Alison Playle. However the WRAC went through a purple patch and scored three goals in quick succession. A fifth was added on the half way mark through open play. CS reorganised the team in the second half with a more defensive formation. This proved to be effective at holding back the WRAC until the 48th minute when they struck again. Despite some good defensive play by the CS, the WRAC proved too strong a force adding two more goals by the end of the game. Helen Skelton CSWHA Team Manager |
