CSSC vs British Police - Golf 1 July 08
| CSSC V British Police - 1 July 2008 - Hollinwell (Notts GC) The second game and on paper the hardest fixture the CSSC team play. A very strong team had been assembled to try and gain revenge for a very heavy defeat in 2007. On a day when the weather hit the high 27 degress the renouned course at Hollinwell proved a fitting and difficult course for all but excellent for match play golf with any fairway missed resulting in either loss of hole or lost ball?? Under temporary joint management team of Dave Ridley and Steve Brattan the morning foursomes produced an excellent fightback by the CSSC team which at one stage could easily have been 4-1 at lunch time but for fine fight backs by Terry Ryan and Steve 2&1 victory and a half from Graham Bell and David Mcintrye. The number pairing of CSSC Champion Andrew Minnikin and newcomer Phil Ridden had started the day well with a 1up win over the police legendary Chris Dinsdale and partner. This led to a tie after the morning foursomes leaving all to play for in the afternoon. Andy Minnikin started off at No1 and produced excellent golf to put the first win on the board with a 1 up victory. Graham Bell then closely followed with another 2&1 victory putting the momentum with the CSSC team. However,the normally reliable Al Mason and David Mcintrye both went down 2&1 losses and with Phil Ridden only halving the CSSC team needed its lower order to come through. And come through it did!!! The CSSC team then won all the remaining games in fine style!! The excellent Dave Kershaw won 5&4, Steve came through a tough battle to win 3&2, Rich Davies at last getting to grips with the golf course won 3&2 , Lee Hopwood with solid golf 4&2 and Terry Ryan brought the team home with a 2&1 win. An excellent team performance by all.
