CS Cricket Match Vs Army / Navy

Civil Service Cricket Match versus the ARMY Development XI

Played at Aldershot on 22 May 2008.

This was the first time that the CS cricket team played against the Army Development team.

On a good sunny day, CS won the toss and elected to bat first. Within the first few overs it was realised that the pitch was bowler friendly. The CS side struggled to reach 184 for 7 in 50 overs. (R Williamson 112 and D Barlow 33) were the main contributors with the bat.

After the Lunch interval, with the sun baking, the pitch became a batting paradise. The Army scored 186 for 2 in 34 overs. (Lewis 71 not out, Sheeran 61, and Hill 31) Thomas 1 for 31 and G Wright 1 for 42. Thus winning by 8 wickets.

Civil Service vs The NAVY at Portsmouth 17 June 2008

Again on a nice hot and Sunny day 17 June, The CS batted first, got to a steady start and lost 5 wickets quickly at the score of 103 (Williamson 33, Fergusson 32, Denly 11, Trower 7, Barlow 6 ) a good recovery was then managed with 85 Run partnership between Pendlington not out 67 and Gardner 30 the score moved to 231 for 7 in 50 overs. (Extras 34).

A blazing start by the Navy, 1st wicket fell for 45 runs in 7 overs, followed by two further quick wickets, but M Toogood 82 and S Needham 77 Not Out took the game away from CS side and eventually the Navy won the match by 5 wickets. G Angus 2 for 42 and R Johnson 2 for 54, and Gardner 1 for 59 were amongst the wickets fro the CS side.
