After nearly six years as the Yorkshire & Humberside regional representative for archery I am handing over to Naomi Faulkner one of our best lady recurve archers in Yorkshire. So organsation of regional events and the team for the Nationals is in good hands. The indoor championships are in January, held as part of the joint Bowmen of Adel and HASSRA Leeds indoor tournament.
We don't have a huge number of civil service archers in Yorkshire but the membership makes itself felt in local competitions. We have archers in all three disciplines (bow types) - recurve (as seen in the Olympic Games), Compound and the traditional Longbow.
At the Northern Counties Archery Society's 31st Indoor Championships on 9th November in Wakefield David O'Carroll came second in the Longbow, Naomi Faulkner came third and Derise Atkins was 5th in ladies Recurve and Philip Prentis was nudged out of third place by one gold in the gentlemen Recurve but won a medal for being in the winning county team. John Fell and Gordon Jinks had their own private tussel for 32nd place, again decided on golds. In Compound Lynford Barnes came 8th and Charles Ramsden 14th. Alas, we still have no presence in ladies compound.
All CSSC members who are archers are qualified to take part in regional and national championships. Just make yourselves known! And don't forget, archery has been included in the Civil Service Games at Loughborough University on 17-18 September 2009.
