Stride Out and Take Part in a Fund-Run

Feeling the urge to get in the spirit of an Olympic year, and raise money for the Civil Service Benevolent Fund at the same time? We have just the thing for you: we have places in the Great Manchester Run, the British 10K London, and the inaugural Royal Parks Foundation London Half-Marathon.

We've secured 5 places in the Great Manchester Run for the first time this year, which takes place on 18 May. 25,000 people take part in the North West's biggest mass-participation sporting event, and together with other people raising money for charity, you could be rubbing shoulders with some of the very best athletes in the world, as they begin their final preparations for Beijing!

It's the third time we've had places reserved for us at the British 10K London - and there are 24 places up for grabs for the run, which happens on 6 July. The Fund team in 2007 included our President, Sir Gus O'Donnell, and Chairman, Sir Brian Bender, not to mention MoD Permanent Secretary Bill Jeffrey.

And if that's whetted your appetite, we've managed to secure 5 places in the first-ever Royal Parks half-marathon later in the year as well.

Starting and ending in Hyde Park, the 12,500 runners will race through four Royal Parks, taking in superb views of Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, Marble Arch, and the Royal Albert Hall, on Sunday 12 October.

The event is celebrating the amazing wildlife, history and heritage of the parks, with 'sustainability' as the central theme of the event.

Apart from having the satisfaction of completing a major personal achievement, by taking part in one of the runs, you'll be helping us to get things done for people who are struggling.

And we're determined to go better than last year's outstanding fundraising effort - where we collected over £10,000 from our Fund runners!

Co-ordinating our participation at these major events is our Central Fundraising Manager, Jo Ayley.

'We're delighted to secure places at the Great Manchester Run, especially as we know that not everyone can come down to London to take part in a fundraising event,' she said.

'And we're also sure that the British 10K London will again be a great success - although we hope that the weather will be slightly kinder to us this year!'

As usual, anyone who takes part in these events on behalf of the Fund will get our full support; including a running vest, fundraising and publicity advice, hints and tips on training for the big day, and their own fundraising page on JustGiving.com.

And if you're competing in an event not listed above, and are looking for a charity to run for, please consider us.

To register your interest in taking part in any of these events, contact Joseph Carroll by e-mail, at joseph.carroll@csbf.org.uk, or by telephone on 020 8240 2447.
