The Russell Scott Trophy is awarded to the Area Association with the best all-round record during 2007.
This trophy attracted its highest level of entries for a number of years and the Chairman had great difficulty in selecting a winner. Because of this he decided to award three, Highly Commended plaques.
The Chairman felt that these three Area Associations should be congratulated for the way they have embraced changing customer expectation and for having the foresight to move onwards with new ideas.
The first to receive a highly commended plaque were Cardiff AA. This association had an excellent 2007 offering a wide range of activity, and member's offers. Amongst the many offers, the Association set up was a very attractive 25% discount on usage of local authority leisure facilities. During 2007 the association acquired 287 new members many of whom were recruited through the Association's Christmas Draw which attracted entries from over 600 members.
The second Area Association the Chairman wanted to recognise was Cheltenham AA who during 2007 sought to increase awareness amongst existing and potential members through a very successful Open Day and the creation of an email information service with their major eligible employers. This Association supported a wide and varied range of sports for members and their families including most recently golf and sailing. In addition this Association during 2007 put in place initiatives to appreciate the time and effort given by its volunteer workforce
The third Area Association to receive a highly commended plaque was South Essex formerly Southend AA. This association rather than run events grant aids departments in their catchment. Members, it is reckoned, are therefore more likely to see a tangible benefit for their membership as this system allows individual offices to run their own events.
The Association operates a very successful cinema ticket scheme. This plus an attractive discount scheme with a local Adventure Park helped the Association attract 550 new members during 2007.
Nottingham Area Association were awarded the Russell Scott Trophy. This Association's rise during 2007 was remarkable as the Association only begun to turn itself around in early 2007 but did so with such panache and vigour it would be remiss of CSSC not to appreciate their efforts. During 2007 the Association ran many events for its members and their families including weekend trips to Ostend and Amsterdam and a wide range of sports events.
The Association now boasts a varied Members Offers programme including two static caravans for which members can receive a 25% hire discount, subsidised flying lessons and a £10 subsidy scheme for any activity or social a member want to do.
Communication was key to this Area's success. Members were regularly contacted by newsletter and email coupled with the introduction of a 8 page leaflet to acquaint members with the Association.
During 2007 the Association supported a recruitment campaign which helped realise 271 new members
