Liverpool Marathon Des Healy

Des Healy

CSSC member Des Healy is running the Liverpool Marathon in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Back in 2009 my then 3 year old nephew Stephen was diagnosed with the Duchene's form of Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle wasting disease that predominately attacks young boys. At the time I said I would undertake a fundraising activity each year for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign after reading up on the excellent work they do.

In 2009 I ran the Abingdon marathon and managed to raise over £1000. Last year myself and a colleague, Phil Rees, cycled to every Jobcentre in the Thames Valley district covering 200 miles over two days and raising in excess of £2000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. This year having remembered the pain of the bike ride I've decided to undertake the inaugural Liverpool marathon on October the 9th.

With a 2 year old and a 4 year old, I'm managing to do most of my training running up and down the hills of Wycombe during my lunch breaks at the jobcentre. I'm hopeful of getting around in approximately 4 hours and I'm hoping to raise between £500 and £1000 for charity.

I have been able to see first hand the support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign gives to families who are affected by this disease, and I know how hard charities are finding it at the current time to raise funds.
