CSSC Member Takes Bronze in Barbarian Endurance Ride
Rachael Claridge of DE&S HR Military Policy team has secured a bronze medal in the 120km Federation Equestrian International Challenge in South Africa.
Along with her colleagues on the Barbarian Endurance Riding Team, Rachael and her Great Britain team mates rode the challenging 120km course in Beaufort West in South Africa with borrowed horses.
The team was required to bring four out of six horses back across the line and underwent rigorous veterinary inspections to stand a chance of a medal. The Great Britain team got all six horses back, but were pipped at the post by the French who took the silver medal. Namibia took gold.
Rachael said of the challenge: "Our long flight and coach trip were definitely worth the effort. We started the event at 4.30am in the pitch black and pouring rain, but we enjoyed the challenge of the endurance ride. I'd like to thank the Laurels Sports Club for their contribution towards my airfare for this amazing event."
