MOJ Golf Day

Golf within the MOJ (and its agencies) was keenly contested from 1994 to 2005 but since then we’ve had a break of three years with one solitary tournament thrown in for good measure in 2007. Going forward we hope to run the tournament at least once a year for the main trophy and possibly even expand the ‘tour’ and play at more venues if people are keen.

Fortunately JURA have backed the tournament this year providing subsidy for those who are CSSC members and small prizes for those who won. It was not all plain sailing though with two days of heavy rain beforehand the 21 travellers – with entrants coming from as far away as Sheffield, Brighton and Birmingham - approached Sudbury Golf club with trepidation. Fears were heightened upon seeing rain start to fall, puddles on the practice greens and what seemed like a lake on the 8th!

However after the 7 morning teams drove off in fine (ish) weather there was no more rain for the entire day and by the time the first group approached the 8th the ‘lake’ had disappeared.

For the morning texas-scramble competition the winning team posted a level par score for the first nine holes and beat three other teams by the odd shot to cap a good morning warming up all entrants for the afternoon.

After a quick lunch the main competition started and with the weather brightening up it made for am enjoyable competition for all competitors. With some tricky putts at Sudbury and their fast greens scoring was tight and the winner came into the club house in the last group to snatch victory from others telling tales in the clubhouse regarding their rounds!
