Target Rifle: CSSC TSA Match Vs Army, Raf, Royal Navy & Tara

The Services Pentangular Match

31 MAY 2009.

Like the day before, it began warm and sunny, but the day ended even hotter. Again, the breeze was gentle and from the right in the morning but became much harder to read in the afternoon.

The civil service made a reasonable start at 300yds averaging 47.8. Considering all 12 shooters, this left us in 2nd place, 5 points behind the RAF and only 1 point in front of the Army. We did a little better at 600yds averaging 48.4 but we had dropped to 3rd with the RAF now leading us by 1 point and the Army in 1st place beating us by 5 points.

Scores at long range are always lower as the effects of the wind and light are much more significant, and this day was no different. We only averaged a disappointing 45, with two team members being given misses. The Army did exceptionally well in the conditions gaining a further 21 points, whereas the RAF only gained another 5 points.

However, at 1000 yds, the light deteriorated further and we only managed an average 44.3 but this was 4 points better than the RAF, although the Army gained another 10 points.

The conditions for all the Representative Matches is to count the best 10 scores from the 12 shooters and, when the two lowest scores were deleted for each team, the Army had won by 18 points over CSSC with the RAF a further 9 points behind. Whilst we would have liked to have won, we were very pleased with the weekend's shooting overall.

The top scorer for CSSC was again Rob Lygoe with the excellent score of 196.14, which was the highest score of the day. Coaching duties were shared between Ian Davison, Roger Mundy, Steve Green, Roger Quy, Jim Dunn, Rob Lygoe, Dave Smith and Eric Stuart-Bamford.

This was the first time that Dave Robinson had fired for CSSC for many years and we hope there will be many more occasions.
