Event Description

The North Region Golf Scratch & Handicap cup competitions (holders Andrew Minnikin LSC / Simon Coultas HMRC) and the qualifying competition for the National Civil Service Scratch & Handicap Finals will be held at the venue of the '2005 Seve Trophy', Wynyard Golf Club (wynyardgolfclub.co.uk), Wellington Drive, Wynyard Park, Billingham TS22 5QJ on Monday 16 June 2008.

The combined competitions will be over 36 holes of medal play, in handicap order, with the handicap maximum being 24. The first tee is booked from 09:30 and from 14:30.

The National Scratch Finals are scheduled for 10 September 2008 at Pannal Golf Club (pannalgc.co.uk) near Harrogate and the National Handicap Finals for 7 August 2008 at Stoneham Golf Club (stonehamgolfclub.org.uk) near Southampton. As in recent years, three qualifiers from each region will be invited to attend each of these finals although any one individual may not attend both. Please note, however, that the qualifiers are no longer fully funded by the CSSC. The winners will be 85% funded (about £20 to pay), the runner-up 65% (about £50 to pay) and the third place 50% (about £70 to pay) for allowable expenses and subsistence, although travel costs will be paid at full CSSC rates. To attempt qualification for either or both of these finals you must first pay the appropriate entry fee.

#The full day package price of £30 includes 36 holes of golf, soup & sandwiches at lunchtime and a simple evening meal. The normal day rate at Wynyard for just 27 holes plus food is in the region of £75. The club (following some superb negotiating by Sean Hassen - thanks for that Sean!) have offered us the excellent rate of £50 per head and on top of that the Civil Service Sports Council (North Region) have very kindly increased their subsidy this year to £20 per person. This is a golfing bargain; a great competition on a super golf course and a chance to reach the CSSC National Finals.
