Event Description

We have sole use of the track from 8.00pm to 10.00pm, the services of a fully qualified coach and bikes and helmets are also be provided although if you have your own (track) bike and helmet, you can use them instead.

The bikes provided are fitted with LOOK Delta pedals – riders with shoes with fittings for other pedals can hire shoes from reception at £4.00 (extra) for the session. If you wish to wear trainers, the Velodrome will supply toe-clip adaptors at no extra cost.

The one condition that is imposed by the Velodrome is that you must be able to ride a bike –

Entries are limited to 30 and will be accepted on a first come first served basis for members of CSSC. Entries from non-members will be placed on a waiting list and any places not taken by members will then be allocated to non-members also on a first come first served basis

On entering the track we will be divided into 2 groups – those who have not ridden at the Velodrome before and those who have. Those who have will be allowed on to the track straight away and the group who has not will be briefed on track etiquette.

This group will then be invited to ride their track bikes around the bottom of the track and after about 10 minutes (or longer if you, as an individual, need longer) you will be riding on the banked track of the Velodrome. All the time the coach will be watching and shouting instructions to you and to the experienced riders who will have moved further up the track. You will learn how to ride in a line and then swing up the track and take your place at the back of the line. Track time is usually spent 15 minutes riding and 15 minutes resting with the culmination of the evening’s event being a 1 lap (250 metres) individual, rolling start time trial for which trophies and/or medals will be awarded to the fastest riders
