Event Description

Merseyside CSSC are pleased to offer a day out to Pateley Bridge and Brimham Rocks

Friday 3rd June 2011

Pateley Bridge – is a pretty market town in the Nidderdale Valley close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The winding High Street is packed with small specialist shops (including Britain’s oldest sweetie shop), charming pubs and country tea rooms, and the award winning Nidderdale Museum.

Brimham Rocks - is one of the most haunting geological formations to be found anywhere in the world – huge sandstone structures formed in desert conditions around 300 million years ago and worn by wind and rain into truly fantastic shapes. The 362 acre site is now owned by the National Trust and contains well marked paths and a Visitor Centre.

Details will be given for a circular walk from Pateley Bridge of about 8 miles. The gradient is moderate to steep in places and the terrain varies from woodland paths, gravelled tracks and fields. Suitable footwear will be needed and please bring something to eat and drink and a waterproof jacket.

If you prefer the coach will take you to Brimham Rocks and you can spend time there and walk back to Pateley Bridge – around 3-4 miles.
