CSSC 2005 Festival Report
Nearly 100 people attended the National Volleyball Festival at Loughborough University on 4/5 April.
Players had come forward from the CSSC Regions, having taken part in Regional Events over the winter and spring.
Regional events are designed to encourage players of all abilities but with particular focus on intermediate and beginner players. These are the key target groups to help build and sustain volleyball within the Civil Service.
All Regional events should offer some coaching and then some game play, in groups of mixed abilities.
In some Regional events participants acquire the points their team has scored in each game, and accumulate points across the day for the opportunity to go forward to the National Festival.
We ask Regions to ensure that they have a mix of abilities represented in the group that comes forward to the Festival. At least two must be first time attendees to the Festival, and two should be beginner level and two intermediate. Three women should also come forward from each Region.
At the Festival we again provide coaching, and thanks are due to the senior and very experienced players and coaches within CSSC who help with these sessions.
Teams then play, and players assessed for the second part of the Festival which sees teams selected from the attendees to be of even standards. This provides more competitive games, ensures greater inclusion and participation and hopefully helps players develop and practice the skills they have learned in the coaching sessions.
We hope people go away tired, have learned new skills, met new friends and enjoyed volleyball enough to continue to play more both within CSSC, and externally!
Maybe we will see you at one of our events next year!
