After an excellent result against the Police the CSSC men's golf team took on the might of the
RAF at the Home of English Golf at Woodhall Spa GC.
A strong team led by captain, Steve Kellet and had been assembled in the hope of the clean sweep of winning all matches this year - the Grand slam.
The team needed a strong showing in the foursomes and they got off to a great start with debutant Jack Woffenden and Steve Brattan bringing in the first points with outstanding golf
with a 5 and 4 win. This was followed by another big win from the ever reliable north eastern partnership pair of Jonny Todd and Si Coultas winning 6 and 5 again playing superb golf.
Match 3 saw Dave Keshaw and Tony Inam produce another point - confidence was flowing throughout the team and was evidenced in a fantastic fight back from the CSSC legendary pairing of Neil Hughes and Terry Ryan who were 4 down with 5 to play and managed an excellent half.
The only blemish was the loss in the last match
CSSC 3.5 RAF 1.5 at lunchtime
Captain Kellet was looking for a fast start in the singles and got the start he wanted when Steve Brattan brought home the first win in the top match with a 3 and 2 win.
Dave Kershaw fought hard in a close match and came in with the second point with a win on the last. Debutant Jack Woffenden in fine form won 2 and 1 closely followed by Jonny Todd with a comfortable win playing solid golf 6 and 4.
Si Coultas unluckily lost a close match 2 and 1 and it was left to Terry Ryan to fight back from 2 down to win at the last to close the match for the CSSC team getting to 8.5 points and an unbeatable position.
However the spirited RAF team did not give up - and in very close games won all the last 4 matches to give a respectable final result. All matches were close Neil 'the Ledgend' Hughes fighting back from 5 down to unluckily lose at the last. Richard Davies fought hard to close on the last as did Tony Inman- Dean was up against an inspired opponent and went down 4 and 3.
The result meant the CSSC team had managed a clean sweep for the first time in the new season format and thanks must go to all players who represented the team with a big thanks to Dave Ridley Team Secretary and Team Captain Steve Kellet for all the hard work in getting teams and venues together.
Congratulations all round!
