Civil Service Bowling Association

CSBAwhatitdoes

The Civil Service Bowling Association [CSBA] was formed by Civil Service Sports Council members at an inaugural meeting held on 4th September 1922. The main purpose of the meeting was to specify the primary reason of the Association which was

"..to arrange competitions of single-handed, pairs and single rinks, Civil Service Championships of the British Isles, matches with kindred Associations and International Civil Service matches between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, whereby the game might be fostered and advanced in the Service."

These words, brought up to date, are still in the opening paragraph of our current Constitution.

The affairs of the Association are managed in the period between Annual General Meetings by a Council which includes

  • the Officers, President, Senior and Junior Vice Presidents, General Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Match Secretary who are elected at the Annual General Meeting;
  • four Vice Presidents, who are the current Presidents of each of the National Associations;
  • delegates from each National Association based on the number of members; and
  • the Immediate Past President.

The Council meets quarterly with most meetings held in Cheltenham since this is easily accessible from all parts of the United Kingdom.
