Scottish Civil Service Bowling Association
My name is John Mackie and I am the President of the Scottish Civil Service Bowling Association. I started playing bowls in 1969 and became a member of the Civil Service Sports Council in 1971. From the outset I found the friendship within Civil Service bowls to be wonderful and it was the best move that I have ever made during my time playing sport.
I became the English President in 1987 followed by President of the CSBA from 1991 until 1995. I retired in 2001 and moved back to my 'ain folk' in Scotland in 2003 and I am the current President of the Scottish Civil Service Bowling Association.
I can thoroughly recommend Civil Service bowling in all four home countries to anyone who likes comradeship and good competition.
In Scotland we have ten Areas as follows: Ayr, Beith, Dumfries, Dundee, East Kilbride, Edinburgh, Gareloch & Loch Long, Glasgow, Perth and Rosyth.
If anyone is interested in joining the SCSBA please contact the National Secretary, Joe Reid whose email address is joereid@talktalk.net . He will be able to give you the name and contact number of your nearest local secretary.
I am certain that if you are keen on bowls as a sport that you will not regret having made the effort to join us and I look forward to meeting any new members personally at some time in the future.
