On 24 May 2008 the annual bowling match between the Scottish and English Civil Service Bowling Associations took place at the Marchmount Bowls Club in Dumfries.
At stake was the Trophy presented several years ago by Stewart Borthwick which the Scottish bowlers had held on to for the last three years.
The day was bright and sunny with a stiff breeze and despite traffic problems everyone did eventually turn up to play.
The President of the Scottish C.S.B.A., John Mackie, when introducing his team, explained he was unable to play due to an eye problem but welcomed Richard Leslie, the President of the English C.S.B.A. and his players who had travelled from various parts of England. The English team included two Lady bowlers, Mary Jutsum and June Brown.
What followed was a very tight game between two evenly matched sides with the English team just managing to overcome the Scottish players by 5 shots, a margin of less than one shot per rink.
The English team scored 109 shots against 105 scored by the Scottish players. Please click here to see the Full Results
